Two weeks til lift off! Phhhwoooooosh!

August 21st, 2010

For once i’m writing here not to apologize or make delays or anything annoying like that… but just for the sheer hell of it.  Like a blog.  Hooray!

So… 16 days to go til ‘album day’.  Thats a bit scary!  Cutting it close too… despite nearly running out of cash and almost not having a manufacturer to produce the physical copies, everything is still on track for the September 6th release date.  This means the next two weeks will be filled with lots of promotiony stuff and getting the word out there.  This will involve sending out press packs, a bit of networking and hopefully scoring a few gigs to promote the record.  Oh, and the mailing list will finally see some action!  I’m *knackered*.

In my spare time i’ve been messing about in the studio, working on the EP to come out at the end of the year.  This will be the sort of ’sister CD’ to Lost in Transit, with 10 tracks which were cut from the main record.  Not for lack of quality, but just because I wanted the album to have a certain sound and ‘theme’ which these songs didnt really fit into.  These will include a lot of the songs I used to play frequently live including Troglodyte, So Wrong, Take Me Home, All Passing Time, Miles Away and No Lies.

Incase you havent seen the news already, the album will be availiable from a huge number of stores online for the digital version, including iTunes, HMV and Play.com, but if you want the physical copy to hold in your hand, you’ll be able to buy that directly from us or at Amazon.co.uk.  The physical copy comes with a fully illustrated 20 page booklet complete with all the lyrics to the album, and photos.

A few people have been asking for signed copies (god knows why) so if you want me to vandalise your shiny new copy with a rubbish squiggle, just ask when ordering!  That also means i’ll have to open it and unwrap the shiny plastic wrapper… and personally I find unwrapping the shiny plastic wrapper on new CDs to be the one of most satisfying and rewarding experiences in the world, so you’ll be missing out.  Your choice.  You have been warned.

Anyway, thats all for now!  Time to shut off the studio and get some sleep.  See you all very soon!

Its coming! Finally!

July 3rd, 2010

Hello all!  Long time no blog!

Incase you havent seen the updates yet, my album is indeed finished and on its merry way to your stereos, computers and ipods.  I have decided on the release date of September 6th because ideally i’d like the promotion for the album to peak around the colder months, and I wanted to give it a nice head start to get there.  To me, the record feels very Autumny/Wintery so this made more sense to me than releasing it at the start of summer.  Also how the heck do singers cope with hayfever??

I’ll be doing all I can in the coming weeks and months to get the album out there in the public eye.  Speaking of which, I realize the Street Team has become a sort of non-event… we had planned on starting the Street Team once the album was released so we actually have something for you lot to promote, but a new problem has cropped up in the form of spam, so we’re currently in the process of giving the site (and the street team) a glossy new coat of paint.  If you are actually looking for viagra or penis enlargement pills, I suggest you head over to the street team now before it all gets deleted :)

Thank you all again for being so patient with me all this time.  It took 6 years of writing and 3 years of studio work to eventually finish this record, so obviously nothing has been rushed and alot of time has been put into ensuring the final product is the best it can possibly be.  Overall i’m very proud of my work, and I really hope you enjoy it when it comes out in August.

The next blog post wont take quite so long :P

See you soon!

Oh look it’s June D:

June 22nd, 2009

Right… after the enthusiasm of my last post, this is where I bow my head, stick my tail between my legs and say “yeah, things rarely go as planned…”

Unfortunately i’ve been out of action for a few months due to a nasty throat problem which made it difficult to sing.  This completely messed up my plans to have the album out by March, but the good news is i’m now fully recovered and back to work getting it completed.  So yes… i’m still alive and theres still an album on the way.  Again, thank you all for your patience, I promise it will be worth the wait.  I wouldnt be releasing anything unless it was something to be proud of in every way, shape or form, so at least you know you’re getting the best possible product in the process.  Win win, right?  :)  Well, something like that.

I’ll also be making more and more live performances/appearances in the coming months to let people know i’m out there, so keep an eye on the website for upcoming live dates in both the real world and on the interweb.

In the meantime, please alert your friends/family/pets of my existance and help spread the word!

Not long now, I promise!

2009: The year of ACTION!

January 6th, 2009

A belated Merry Christmas, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!  2009 has arrived, and - as the title says - this shall be the year things start to happen.

As ever, I have been busy getting the album ready.  The only track left to record is So Few Souls, but the others need some tweaking here and there to bring everything upto the same standard.  Transit, Make Us Right, The City’s Gone To Town, Firelight, and Blood on the Line are fully recorded and mixed, while Warchibeser, Winter Rain, Confusion, Troglodyte and Childhood Flame still need mixing.  I have been very protective of who listens to what until I am 101% happy with each track, but now that time is getting remarkably close, you’ll start to see tracks appearing on this site and the profile pages such as Facebook, Myspace etc.

I am aiming to have the album ready for production by the end of the month, with a release date of around February 16th.  This is not set in stone, but the proper release date will be published on the site as soon as i’m fully aware of the timescale involved.  The CDs will come shrinkwrapped with a 20 page full colour booklet including the lyrics, some backstory, credits/thank-yous and photos.

Allllso, sometime during the year i’ll be pushing certain tracks as singles, complete with their own music videos, b-sides etc.  The singles will be re-edited into radio edits and released digitally, making them eligable for the download charts… and that is when things shall get very interesting indeed!  Or not… that’s pretty much upto you guys :P

Get ready for the thick and fast updates, 2009 will be a good one.

When it rains…

November 27th, 2008

Howdy all! It’s been a busy couple of weeks!

I have finally returned to the studio to produce oodles of music and it feels great.  There’s just something magical about this time of year that really sparks my creativity.  Although it looks utterly dismal outside (thanks, England), it’s a scene that conveys so many different feelings and emotions for me, and heaps of character.  The perfect recipe for inspiration.

My current track of focus has been the very apt Winter Rain, a song written around this time seven years ago.  Most of you won’t know this song yet, apart from the odd video or two of it being performed live on YouTube.  It’s taken a good few months and various drafts to find an interpretation that works for the album version - something that retains the simplicity of the tune while still sounding grand - but i’m finally on the right track.

In other news, i’ve just finished my second photo shoot for the album!  These photos will be used for the album booklet, website and any press materials in the future.  I really can’t thank Mike enough for these, i’m just incredibly lucky to have such a talented guy on board with the project.  If it werent for him, my album booklet would probably be full of photos that look like this:

The new photos will start appearing on the site in a couple of days, so you can blow them up to 1000x and print off giant mes to stick on your favourite doors/walls/bus shelters.  Alternatively you could just look at them briefly and cheer.

Right… that’s enough typing for now.  I shall return with another update very soon!

See you soon,
Edd

And i’m back!

November 13th, 2008

Hello everyone!

Right, this is a very new thing for me so please bear with me if it reads like crap, or simply isn’t very interesting… but don’t worry, it will be interesting.  Trust me.  Do you trust me?  Good.

Firstly i’d like to say a huge thank you for all the continued support i’ve received in the buildup to the album release; without you spurring me on and giving me hope, i’d have dismissed this project as some crazy idiotic scheme long ago and I wouldn’t be doing what I am today.  Thank you.

Secondly, I should explain why it’s November and I still don’t have an album out.  Without running the risk of sounding whiney, it’s been a funny old year.  I was occupied with my university course up until July, then one of my best friends passed away in August and I decided I needed some time off before continuing with the record.  On top of this, i’m a perfectionist and I want this record to be the best it possibly can be.  However, with the downtime i’ve been able to make little changes here and there, making everything sound better than it already does.

Rest assured, the album is coming along well and will be finished soon.

I’ll be adding new blog entries to update you on the progress of the album and what i’ve been upto in the studio.  In the meantime, please check out the new website and the great new features on it.

I’m very excited (yet understandably nervous) for this release, and I absolutely cannot wait to share my work with you.

Thanks again for your support (and patience :P)
Edd

PS: and on the bright side, these delays have given new meaning to the title Lost in Transit.
